Presently, St. James has 2 ministries for helping at the altar during our Divine Services: the acolytes and the readers.
Our acolytes are made up of the boys and men of the parish who assist the clergy with conducting the divine services of the Holy Orthodox Church. Any one interested in assisting in the holy altar should speak to Sub-Deacon Joe.
The readers assist the clergy with the reading the Holy Scriptures and other texts during the services. A Reader in the Orthodox Church is an ordained position within the minor orders of the clergy. While all of our readers are not presently ordained (technically 'tonsured'), they are all men who have the possibility of being tonsured and are hopefully moving in that direction.
